The Department of Pedagogy at  Jan Grodek State Vocational Academy in Sanok (PWSZ Sanok) trains students within three specialties:

- Early education and primary education,

- Childcare education with pedagogical therapy,

- Speech therapy and pedagogical therapy.

 

Undergraduate studies (lasting three years) are held in full studies or part-studies.

 

The first year of study is common to all specialties and includes such items as, for example:

- Introduction to Philosophy,

- Introduction to Psychology,

- Sociology

- Introduction to pedagogy,

- Training of educational skills,

- Psychology of development and education.

 

During the first year, students choose one of the available specialties to begin the second year of training in a particular direction.

Below are shown both specialties.

 

Specialty: Early education and primary education.

 

                In the course of three years of study, students participate in classes defined by the study plan by gaining  general competence and for: Early education and primary education faculty. The main objective of studies undertaken by the candidates is to prepare for the role of the kindergarten teacher and early education at schools.

              As a result of activities under the plan of studies, graduates have the following general and specific competencies related to knowledge, skills and attitudes:

- understanding the needs of children (preschool and younger school age) and any other (psychological, biological, social) determinants of acquiring knowledge, acquire skills, personality development of pupils;

- ability to formulate educational objectives for the development of both themselves and their pupils;

- knowledge of the curriculum and programs for pre-school education and early childhood;

- knowledge of methods and forms of design learning situations according to the content of education, the needs and abilities of children;

- the ability of creative activity in the search for innovative solutions concerning the organization of the educational process aimed at supporting the development of pupils;

- the ability to organize your work, and pupils (planning and finalizing activities, rational management of time);

- knowledge of pupils learning and the ability to diagnose their level of development in order to properly adapt the methods of supporting the process of learning and understanding of the world;

- the ability to evaluate the work pupils and its documentation;

- the efficiency of establishing and maintaining interpersonal contacts not only with children but also their parents (guardians) and the other participants in the educational process;

- the ability to interact with other than a nursery or school institutions and parents in the wider local community;

- understanding of its role as a promoter of social initiatives in the local community, aimed at building educational relationship with the surrounding reality.

                Graduates after completing a three-year process of education within higher vocational studies should be fully prepared to act as a teacher of children in preschool and early school age, thus responding to current and future labor market needs.

                Graduates completing a three-year course of study of higher vocational receive a bachelor's degree. They have the opportunity to continue their education at the master's degree at the same or similar specialty.

                A graduate can work in a pre-primary and primary schools at the level of early childhood education.

 

Specialty: Childcare pedagogy with teaching therapy.

 

                The Graduate of Professional Studies (first degree) is bachelor and has a basic knowledge of general pedagogical, historical and philosophical, sociological and psychological necessary to understand the socio-cultural context of education, upbringing and care work. It has social communication skills, using diagnostic, enriching and improving their knowledge and competences in the field of practical action and create their own methodological workshop. It is prepared to recognize and support individual development and educational needs of children and young people, in particular:

• gifted pupils

• pupils at risk of development, risk of social maladjustment, with specific learning difficulties,

• pupils neglected,

• pupils remain in crisis and traumatic situations.

                The studies are the key to a sound vocational training, develop reflective look skills on their professional role and in-depth understanding of the educational reality.

The Graduate obtains  basic skills in terms of:

- interpretation of social phenomena and educational situations;

- diagnoses and predicts the behavior of pupils, groups and communities;

- solving specific problems of children, adolescents and adults;

- the nature of teaching outside classroom and extracurricular using various methods and techniques of work;

- conducting classes for children and youth in educational therapy;

- cooperation with the institutions of the local environment.

The Graduates obtain permission to work in residential care centers, , support institutions and social welfare, care centers, children's homes, on-call care, shelters for victims of family pathology centers, educational institutions, boarding houses, dormitories, day care and therapeutic, preventive social institutions, organizations, charities and schools (teacher training), the judiciary as an educator, mentor, adviser and curator.

Combination of therapy with a specialization in teaching  childcare pedagogy will prepare graduates for the tasks of the teacher as defined in Regulation of the Minister of National Education and Sport of 7 January 2003. on the rules for the authorization and organization of psychological and pedagogical in public kindergartens and schools.

Graduates completing a three-year course of study of higher vocational receive a bachelor's degree. They have the opportunity to continue education at the master's degree at the same or similar specialty.

 

 

Specialty: Speech therapy and pedagogical therapy.

 

 

          A graduate receives bachelor’s degree and has basic general teaching knowledge as well as historical and philosophical, sociological, psychological and basic linguistic and medical knowledge necessary to understand the socio - cultural context of learning, education and speech therapy jobs. Students have communication skills, using diagnostic, enriching and improving their knowledge and competences in the field of practical action and create their own methodological workshop.
          The graduate will be prepared to perform the tasks of  speech therapist, such as :

  • • carrying out preliminary tests in order to determine the students' speech, including speaking loudly and writing;
  • • diagnosis of speech and language, and - according to its results - to organize aid speech therapy;
  • • conducting individual speech therapy and groups of children, who were found abnormalities in loud speech and writing;
  • • help organize speech therapy for children with difficulties in reading and writing, in close cooperation with teachers and teachers doing corrective compensation classes;
  • • taking preventive measures to prevent the emergence of language communication disorders , including cooperation with the student's immediate environment;
  • • supporting educational and preventive activities of teachers, under the program of school care and prevention program, as well as
  • • be prepared in educational therapy to recognize and promote individual development and educational needs of children and young people, in particular:
  •      - gifted students,
  •      - pupils at risk of development the risk of social maladjustment, with specific learning difficulties,
  •      - neglected students,
  •      - students in crisis and traumatic situations .


          The graduate will have the basic practical skills, such as:

  • • distinguishing disorders / delays in speech development from the standard speech;
  • • determining the etiology of selected speech disorders;
  • • diagnose and classify the various speech disorders;
  • • to evaluate the level of development of speech;
  • • forecasting the development of speech disorders;
  • • organizing preventive activities;
  • • stimulating the development of speech, which is delayed or has been halted;
  • • mastering  different programs, methods and therapeutic techniques;
  • • mastering  the rules of hygiene issues and voice;
  • • advising on communication language for parents / carers / teachers of children with speech disorders.
